The DMACC Student Recreation Center project transformed an existing building on the Ankeny campus into a new student-centered recreation and wellness destination. The project included a major addition and renovation to Building 5, creating approximately 115,300 square feet of new and remodeled space. Designed by RDG Planning & Design, the facility was developed to provide students, faculty, staff, and the surrounding community with expanded opportunities for recreation, fitness, wellness, and gathering.

The recreation portion of the project was designed around a wide variety of athletic and wellness spaces. The facility features a double-height natatorium, gymnasium, running track, weight and fitness areas, racquetball courts, group exercise spaces, and a therapy pool suite. The building also includes a family center and child-watch area, making the facility a destination for a broad range of users.

One of the defining features of the project was the integration of the new recreation center with the existing campus. The addition created a strong connection between the student center and recreation spaces while introducing a modern, open environment filled with activity and natural light. The completed facility became a focal point of the DMACC Ankeny campus and significantly expanded the college’s recreation and wellness offerings. DMACC held an open house for the new Student Center and Trail Point Aquatics & Wellness Center in February 2017, recognizing the facilities as a transformation of the Ankeny campus.
